- Voltmeter with internal resistance equal to or greater than M i2 with max. 2 mm dia. test probes

- Precision thermometer

- 2 mm hexagon key

- Connecting lead (made locally)

Balancing requires connection of the removed seat on battery voltage (terminals 15 and 31, see wiring diagram).

Balancing Procedures:

- The seat being balanced should be left in the workshop so long, until it has reached the ambient temperature.

- Connect seat on battery voltage. Do not switch on seat heating I

If heating is switched on by mistake, let the seat cool off again until its heating element takes on room temperature.

- Connect voltmeter on control unit (A).

- Measure the ambient temperature and refer to the table for the corresponding voltage value.

- Adjust voltage value on balancing potentiometer (B) in such a manner that it displays the value corresponding with the ambient temperature (see table on next page).

Checking Function:

- Switch on seat heating to max. heating power (knurled wheel turned up fully) for about 10 seconds.

- Measure voltage on the control unit after switching off - the measured value should be considerably higher.

Burglar Alarm (Standard)

88/206

The burglar alarm system has an additional control unit, which is installed in the center console.

If the tailgate is raised with the burglar alarm activated, a locking movement is not necessary after shutting the tailgate.

Activation takes place automatically about 25 seconds after the inside lights have gone out.

Doors can be locked on the tailgate lock, but not unlocked.

88/210

Light emitting diodes installed in the catch buttons of doors flash to indicate that the burglar alarm is switched on.

These light emitting diodes go out when unlocking the doors.

Light emitting diodes are activated without contacts via an induction coil.

Power consumption is < 1 mA.

An alarm contact, which is connected with terminal Mk on the alarm control unit, is located on the holding frame for radios without a CD player.

With the radio installed, the alarm contact bears on an insulator cemented on the radio housing.

The alarm will be triggered, if the radio is pulled out of the holding frame with the burglar alarm activated.

Burglar Alarm (Standard)

88/206

88/212

Radios with CD player have an alarm switch installed in the radio housing.

Description of Additional Burglar Alarm Control Unit Functions

Term. 1: Input

Evaluation of tailgate contact

Term. 2: Output

Ground signal for activation of burgiar alarm (to alarm control unit term. E),

- if terminal 8 has ground

- about 25 seconds after closing the tailgate and terminal 7 has ground (central locks locked).

Term. 4: Input

Term. 30 - positive power supply to electronics

Term. 5: Not used

Term. 6: Output

Ground signal to alarm control unit term. A (deactivation of burglar alarm),

- if terminal 9 has ground.

Term. 7: Input

Ground from central locking drive element (at least one drive element must be locked).

Term. 8: Input

Ground signal from lock cylinder switch. LOCK signal (alarm activated). Term. 9: Input

Ground signal from lock cylinder switch. UNLOCK signal (alarm deactivated).

Radios with a CD player are now offered worldwide with restrictions (see list).

Now radios CD-2 and CD-10 have integrated connections and are given a permanent five-digit code number in each case by the manufacturers.

Piease inform your customers, that these radios can no longer be coded with a randomly selected theft preventing code. The pertinent permanent code is supplied with the radio documents..

Sound Package

The sound package comprises a 6-channel amplifier with 2 x 20 watt and 4 x 20 watt power and an integrated frequency compensator adapted to specific car conditions. The amplifier is still located next to the front passenger's seat as in the past. This amplifier is installed underneath the glovebox in RHD cars.

Frequency compensation corresponds with a permanently installed equalizing function. In this manner linear frequency response is possible throughout the entire sound volume range without decreasing or increasing the individual frequency ranges. This permits undistorted reproduction in all operating conditions.

In addition, the system has ten loudspeakers, consiting of:

(I) 2 each treble and medium loudspeakers with branching filter in doors

Power: 30 watt sine

60 watt music

(II) 2 bass loudspeakers (woofers) left and right in B pillars

Power: 30 watt sine

60 watt music

The branching filter of bass loudspeakers is located ahead of the final stages in the amplifier (active control).

(III) 2 each treble and medium loudspekers with branching filter in left and right rear side panels in area of the seat well

Power: 30 watt sine

60 watt music

Information:

Only radios may be used, which have preamplifier output to German Industrial Standards (DIN), e.g. Blaupunkt.

Roof Mounted Antenna

An active roof-mounted antenna is installed for radio reception instead of the windshield antenna used in the past.

Electronics of the preamplifier are located in the antenna base.

The entire antenna is immune to car washing stations, so that it does not have to be removed.

There is less interference from neighboring electronic control units and components with the roof-mounted antenna.

Backlighted Instrument Cluster

The monitoring of different components and systems in a car will be even more complex in the future. Other information such as, for example, fuel consumption, average driven speed, etc., will be added to the warning function displays. It must be possible for a workshop to check the continuously growing (more intelligent) technical scope; in other words technical problems must be pinpointed quickly and displayed optically for evaluation.

The instrument cluster has been revised accordingly, in order to conform with these requirements even in the future. It contains circuits for warnings, an on-board computer and car diagnosing.

The warning signs belonging to instruments in the past have been omitted. Warnings and additional driving information are displayed in three display boxes. Two outer display boxes (A/C) are provided for warning or informing texts. The middle display box (B) is used for symbols (pictograms).

All display boxes consist of LCD displays in transflexible technology, so that frontlight and backlight can be used for displays. All display instruments are backlighted.

In the past the display instruments had been illuminated from the front (frontlighted) by three light bulbs. With backlighting this illumination takes place on the inside, so that even all pointers, scale graduation marks and symbols are illuminated.
