Adjusting Ignition Timing

2. Connect engine tester or timing light and tachometer. A positive terminal for connection of testers is located in engine compartment above control unit.

5. Increase engine speed to 5000 RPM's. Timing must be between 35 and 38 degrees.

3. Disconnect vacuum hose at distributor.

4. Adjust ignition timing to 31° BTDC at an engine speed of 3000 R.P.M. by loosening and turning distributor.

6. Reconnect vacuum hoses. At idle speed (700 + 50 R.P.M.) timing must be 0° ± 4°.

If either of the specifications in points 5 or 6 are incorrect, remove distributor and check on distributor tester.

1. Ignition must be off when connecting test equipment to ignition coil.

2. Dwell angle is not adjustable and does not need to be checked.
