Removing And Installing Brake Pads

Removing Note

1. Pull sensor for brake pad wear indicator out of pad backing plate.

2. Remove retaining pin spring lock.

3. Remove retaining pins.

Note

If brake pad wear sensor has been rubbing on brake disc, replace sensor complete with wires and plug.

Removing Note

Mark brake pads before removing. If they will be reused, pads must be reinstalled in the same position.

3. Remove retaining pins.

4. Remove inner brake pad with hook.

Installing

1. Replace all the brake pads on an axle if any of them show signs of damage or excessive wear.

2. Press piston all the way in with special tool.

Front Brake Caliper

Note

Only clean with alcohol (never with solutions containing mineral oils).

Rear Brake Caliper

5. Press caliper frame outward to release outer brake pad.

4. Remove inner brake pad with hook.

Installing

1. Replace all the brake pads on an axle if any of them show signs of damage or excessive wear.

2. Press piston all the way in with special tool.

Front Brake Caliper

Note

To prevent brake flu it reservoir from overflowing. draw off small amount of brake fluid before pressing piston back, Use syringe reserved exclusively for brake fluids Brake fluids are poisonous and must not be syphoned off with a hose.

3. Clean brake pad bearing and sliding surfaces on brake caliper.

Only clean with alcohol (never with solutions containing mineral oils).

6. Insert inner brake pad.

4. Chock 20° piston position and adjust if necessary with piston turning pliers.

Hold piston gauge at bottom guide surface on front brake caliper.

5. Insert outer brake pad and press floating caliper frame in until it engages in brake pad backing plate.

6. Insert inner brake pad.

7. Install spreader spring, retaining pins and lock springs.

8. Press brake pad wear sensor into pad plate.

9, Depress brake pedal of stationary car firmly several times to move brake pads against discs. Now top up brake fluid in reservoir.

Hold piston gauge at top guide surface on rear brake caliper.

Brake Booster Rod Adjustment

ADJUSTING BRAKE PEDAL PUSH-ROD FREE-PLAY Note

There must be clearance between the brake pedal push-rod and the brake booster.

Adjusting

1. Pull the brake pedal back to the stop.

2. Loosen lock nut and adjust pedal push-rod until specified play (at least 10 mm at pedal) is reached.
