Important

Always perform all test steps beginning with test step 1.

Test steps 23 and 24 must be performed prior to test steps 20, 21 and 22.

A braking test stand is required for test steps 20 through 23 *). Also conform with following points.

1. Never operate car as long as tester is connected.

2. Test stand rollers and car tires must be dry during test.

3. Selector lever of a car with automatic transmission must not be in park position while testing rear axle.

4. Never use a brake pedal winch to adjust braking force.

5. Wait at least 20 seconds before repeating tests or changing channels.

*) Test step 23 could also be performed with car on a platform by turning wheels separately.

4. Break in positive wire to electronic relay term. 87.

Lamp 2 (red) on or comes on occasionally during test. Stop test and eliminate cause of shortcoming. Troubleshoot:

1. Battery insufficiently charged; charge battery or run engine.

2. Excessive voltage drop on ground terminals for control unit or relay for control unit including plug connections.

Break or excessive contact resistance in ground wire to control unit term. 10.

Excessive contact resistance or break in ground connection on electronic relay.

Perform complete test program after eliminating shortcoming.

Solenoid Valve relay — neutral position

Lamps 3 and 4

Lamp 3 (green) must come on

1. Ground connection h^as excessive contact resistance or break.

2. Turn off ignition. Pull off control unit plug and check continuity in following wires: from ground to hydr. unit term. 8, from term. 8 to control unit plug term. 32, or with test lamp on positive and test lead on term. 32] test lamp must come on.

3. Solenoid valve relay malfunctioning.

Solenoid Valve relay — function

1. Turn off ignition. Pulj off control unit plug. Check continuity in following wires: from contr. unlit plug term. 27 to 28 and from 27 to 87 on electronic relay socket. Positive for contr. unit plug term. 1 and negative for term. 27, Test lamp on term. 32. Test lamp must come on.

Motor relay — neutral position

Lamp 3 (green) must come on

1. Turn off ignition. Pull off control unit plug. Check continuity in following wires: Apply positive on contr. unit term. 1 and negative on term. 28. Test lamp on term. 14; test lamp must come on. Test lamp must go out when pulling off of term. 1 or 28.

2. Motor relay malfunctioning.

3. Check tightness of ground terminals and positive connection on pump motor.

4. Check continuity of pump motor. Pump motor malfunctioning; replace hydr. unit.

Electronic relay with overvoltage protection for control unit

1. Turn off ignition. Pull off plug on contr. unit.

2. Pull off ABS-relay XVII of CEB and connect with adapter lead in test plug on back of tester.

4. Turn on ignition and wait approx. 1 sec., then press LED button pos. 4 (comes on).

5. Display okay. Electronic relay on adapter lead okay. Plug tested relay in CEB.

6. Turn off ignition. Connect control unit plug again for following test steps.

Lamps 3 and 4

1. Repeat test step.

2. Electronic relay connected on adapter lead is malfunctioning.

3. Check wires between terminals 29 and 32 for breaks. Display deviates from specification:

1. Turn off ignition. Check wires betw. term. 29 and 32 of disconnected contr. unit plug for breaks as well as continuity of diode

2. Check wire betw. cpntr unit plug term. 29 and instr. cluster term. 2 for break. ;

3. Check plug connection of ind. lamp as well as ground wire and solenoid valve relay plug connection for voltage drop.

Replace hydraulic unit if diode is malfunctioning.
